What is Smilez & Southstar bringing to the world of hip hop?
Smilez: We're bringing a brand new, fresh sound into the game. We're new artists with a sound that can't be classified as belonging to any one region or any one particular style. We've got a new producer whose unique sound isn't recognizable yet so he adds to our uniqueness, and we've got a a new record label who is just as hungry and aggressive as we are.

Southstar: We're also putting a new city on the hip hop map. Orlando, which is just thought of as the teen pop town, but we're about to change that perception.

What has prepared you for your foray into the industry?
Smilez & Southstar: We both were promoting ourselves as solo artist in the streets. We were both on many underground Orlando mixtapes that helped spread our names and sound locally, and it helped us get the number one record on underground radio. We had a big supporter in DJ 007 in Fort Meyers who blasted our stuff all over the radio down there , which is what got A&R reps interested. We also opened up for a lot of hip hop artists who came down to Orlando to do shows like Busta Rhymes, Ja Rule, Jadakiss, Cuban Link, and others.

What are some of your legitimate concerns regarding your career?
Smilez & Southstar: The only concern that we have is longevity. People get into the game, put out one album, and then you don't hear about them after one or two years. We wanna be able to grow as artists, build a loyal and supportive following and continue to put out music that people will respond to and love.

What cartoon characters would you compare yourselves to?
Smilez: Bugs Bunny cause Bugs is funny and humble, but most of all very smart, and he knows what he's doing even though he doesn't seem calculated.

Southstar: Road Runner cause I'm trying to stay one step ahead of everybody else.

If you could battle any rapper from the past, who would it be and why?
Smilez & Southstar: There's nobody from the past that we would want to battle. Battles happen over rivalries and our time is now and we don't have beef with anyone. We respect all the rappers from the past that have paved the way. As far as we're concerned some of the best battle rappers are from the past like LL and KRS-One. And as for the current battles foing on in hip hop, controversy is always a good thing, But for us right now, we're just working hard to do our thing and show the world our skills.
