What drew you to the hip hop game and where would you be without it? The DJ aspect of it. Just the fact that they were using records that really weren't meant for us and then creating something of their own that sounded good amazed me. I wanted to do it too. I'd probably be nowhere good without it.
Do you get more of a thrill producing or writing? I don't know about thrills but I make more beats than what I write to. Nothing beats the feeling of spitting over your own hot track though! I don't care what nobody says, that's the shit right there.
To some, the state of hip hop is bland. What do you think hip hop needs, if anything, to revitalize it to the popularity it enjoyed in the 80s? Hip hop needs some motherfuckin hardcore! The Beatnuts bring that shit all the time. Even on one of our biggest radio records, "Watch Out Now," we was letting the metal holla. I also think there are a lot of undeserving motherfuckers wit deals and the freedom to do wack shit that don't represent the culture or the street for that matter. Plus radio is just wack, whole lotta payola going on...
If you could be an R&B singer, whose style would you chose and why? Ol' Dirty Bastard cause my singing is Dirty & Stinkin.
If the best Mets team ever played the best Yankee team ever, who would win? The Mets haven't had a squad since the 80s and that really sucks cause I love the Mets. Realistically, the answer would be the Yanks.
Universal Greeting to you JUJU. Your one of the best producers in the game son, the stuff you do with the Beatnuts add flavor to the Hip-Hop culture. Keep doing your thing. And your right JU katz need to stop putting wack stuff it's hurting the game in a huge. And radio needs to be radio for what it suppose to be the voice of the street Peace!!!
It was nice meeting you at RSC in NY - keep up the hard work & see you when the tour comes thru Seattle :-)
