Mentors: Ola Kudo, Ernie Paniccioli.
Magazines: The New Yorker.
Books/Writers: The Bible, Octavio Paz, Women Who Run With The Wolves.
TV: UPN Monday Nights.
Restaurants: My crib.
Stress Free Spots: The Black Snapper (Melanee's Bed & Breakfast in Bocas del Toro, Panama), my crib, the caribbean.
Food: Rice & beans & plantains, chocolate, fruit & vegetables.
Color: Shades of blue, red.
Artistic Mission: Teasing out the metaphysical, spiritual and intellectual concepts and symbols that are the building blocks of hip hop culture, urban culture, and a growing global urban movement. Through this work, I hope to stimulate and elevate creative thought in a proactive, positive direction that promotes unity and encourages spiritual/human agency. Individual resiliency, the tension between vibrancy and melancholy, and humanity's desire for discovery are central to the notion of spiritual/human agency.
Future Plans: The creative reform of the blurred boundary between marketing and art. My work functions as a counter-marketing campaign that challenges the subconscious manipulation of mainstream advertising. Symbols such as the DJ, stiletto shoes, sex, and travel, prevalent in advertising, are re-interpreted to invoke a deeper consciousness and promote thought instead of commerce. My concerns include women/girls, the education of our characters, metaphysics, beauty, heterosexual love, and spiritual/human agency. The sources for my work include hip hop/urban culture, pimp culture, spirituality, and romantic love. My references include urban art forms, travel, nature, color, and text.
Things I like: Love, compassion, affection, friendship, the sun, expanding my perspective.
Things that are not cool: Exploitation, manipulation, stress, fear, American egocentricity.
