Founder/Editorial Director
Blackgirl Magazine
Atlanta GA

Looking Forward to: 8th Grade. I am homeschooled, but my mom makes the classes challenging and fun
Favorite Artist: Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, dead prez, Nelly, B2K, Medusa, Damian Marley. My tastes are always changing and evolving.
Favorite Magazine: Blackgirl. I didn't see anything else speaking to me and my generation. So I started my own. I read a lot of other magazines though.
Favorite TV Show: "Famous Jett Jackson"
Favorite Interview for Blackgirl: Each interview revealed some new life lesson, but the three that stand out the most are: Outkast because they were my first interview and I felt real official after that :), Lauryn Hill because it took so long to secure and we were one of the first media outlets to interview her after her hiatus (even before Essence) and Floetry because they are so dope!
Authors: Akousa Busia, Sister Souljah, Toni Morrison, Walter Dean Myers, Louise Merriweather, Dr. John Henrik Clarke. The more I read, the more I like so I expect that his list will grow and grow.
Favorite Food: Vegetarian
Restaurants: Soul Vegetarian, Mutana Health Cafe, Island Twist, Yours Restaurant
When I grow up: I'd like to be a midwife. I will be doing an internship/apprenticeship this year with a local midwife and I am very excited. And of course I want Blackgirl Magazine to be worldwide. Also, since I love to sew, I will be introducing a line of modest apparel.
Designer: Me. I love to sew. My focus is on dresses and skirts right now. If you saw me on Oprah, I was wearing the skirt that I made. Favorite Item of Closing: My head wraps
Inspiration: Attorney Alton Maddox, My Great Granddaddy, My ancestors

I just saw your appearance on Oprah and it inspired me to drop you this line and wish you well. I am a thirty-something caucasian male, and I think you just plain rock girl! You keep smilin, keep your chin up, and march on and believe in your dreams. Your savvy and family support will take you far. I wish I could offer you all the advertising you could ever possibly need, but as you know, this is only a small hurdle to get over to reach your greater goal. I am glad that young girls of all races have you as a role model, and I am especially glad young black girls have been provided with a forum. Just makes me darned proud to be your fellow American. Thank you for being you. Rock On! I had a suggestion, why don't you rename your magazine. I don't have any name in mind, but I think 'Blackgirl' is somewhat limiting, maybe something along the lines of an idea instead of a people would be more fitting. Still, good luck to you and keep up your good works. -----COMMENT: AUTHOR: Jai EMAIL: jrfrazie@iun.edu URL: DATE: 02/19/2003 11:58:00 AM how do i get a subsciption. After years of effort, we will open our very own 3000 square foot Youth & Family Center this August (2003) and would be privileged to have you as guest of honor at our Grand Opening Ceremony, along with 300-400 other dignitaries, community leaders, families and the children who participate in our after-school program. Your story is exactly the type of example we'd like to show the children, to demonstrate to them that they can achieve ANYTHING they choose...even while they're still kids! Kindly let me know how to contact you directly, and we can give you more information about our organization, and hopefully coordinate to have you join us for this exciting celebration! I look forward to your reply, Mrs. Valora G., President of the Board of Directors, Club Esteem, Inc. -----
