Word To Herbert
Bon voyage, everyone. I’m off to London, Paris, Beirut, Iraq, Iran … Is that right mama? Yes. No. Not really. I’m going to London, then Paris, then driving down to Bordeaux and then to Nice and then back to Paris, then London, and back to Brooklyn. It will be the first time I’ve ever been to Europe, and I’m very excited. Right now, I weigh 254 pounds. (Benny Soto says I don’t look it. Thanks, Benny.) That’s a lot of fat and some muscle. When I get back, I’m going to be The fattest fu*k you’ve ever seen. I’m counting on it. BUT MAYBE NOT! I’m also now counting the times I chew, so maybe I won’t eat as much. Nah. Fu*k it. I’m going to stuff my fat face. I’m going to win the culinary Tour de France. I plan on trying frog legs, too.

This week’s Holler will have to do for next Wednesday and the Wednesday after that. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with a couple things you can do to sort of spiritually share the French experience with me. First, go get some Saga Blue cheese. It is so delicious, though not too strong. Blue Stilton is really strong, so if you’re up for it, go buy some of that. Then get yourself a fresh, soft loaf of bread. Doesn’t have to be a baguette, but for the sake of this bit of my editorial, get a damn baguette. (Put it in the oven before you eat it for a bit, so it gets warm and toasty.) Next, go to Trader Joe’s on 14th. Trader Joe’s is the freaking cheapest place to buy your wines. I’m not kidding. I’ve stopped supporting the wine place in my neighborhood because Trader Joe’s beats them by $3 at least on every bottle! Get yourself “Well Red,” an organic, sulfit-free red blend. If they don’t have it, get a Black Mountain merlot.

You should be good. Make sure you also go to Freedom. Last week, it was off the dang hinges and I’m not lying. Even in the rain storm, even with EVERY other place empty, we were wall-to-wall. The tune of the night was Portrait’s “Here We Go,” a jewel I dug up for sh*ts and giggles. Floetry came by too. If they come again, I’ll have to add them to our list of celebrated regulars (Jeru, Naughty by Nature, Grand Puba, UMCs, Lords of the Underground, Dana Dane, etc. etc.).

When I get back, I have some big things in store. Like the first official Freedom CD. Like a new Saturday night party that will crush all others. Like finally that house music party I’ve been dreaming about.
