Word To Herbert
Word is bond, people. I’m working like a dawg, ya heard me? I’m puttin’ in hours. I mean, beaucoup d’heurs, ya smell me? Yeah-er. The real estate jawns are poppin’ off; I may have my first deal already. The writing is about to pop, too. I got the May/June YRB issue on lock, and I’m currently working on writing for Vibe. (They don’t know about this white boy. They just don’t know.) The deejaying is always cracking, but I got some stinky, dirty, downright nasty-like-yo-momma’s-basement thing now every Saturday at Corner 51 for IamNYC. I’ll be starting that next week; this week I’m at Eugene’s for their big anniversary bash (they begged and pleaded for a Herbert). And Tuesday is that big Usher dance move festival I like to do. The one with all the dancers and famous choreographers and stuff. Bboy battles and all that.

Don’t make me come out there and get liquid.

What? What you say? What about Freedom? Homie, you don’t have to ask me about that. I’m at the point where I almost SHOULDN’T talk about it cuz it’s so dang crazy. Last week, I held it down. This week, Cosi’s back. Expect an all-out, full blown assault on your senses. KNOW that your feet will ache. UNDERSTAND when you see people coming out at 4 in the morning with soaking wet shirts. We are always packed. People … please come early. Fellas, don’t try coming after 1AM. Cuz I hate that sh*t. You come down at like 2:30 in the AM, you’re already drunk from the other place you were at, so basically you’re a good for nothing who’s just trying to get in and breathe all over our top-notch female party goers, and then call your boys on the cell and let them know how live it is and invite their worthless asses down. AND THEN you’re like “Yo Herbert? What’s the deal, doggy? I thought this was Freedom. What’s the deal, fam? I can’t come in?”

No you can’t come in. Sorry. Go get some falafel. Come back next week.

In other news, Herbzilla may be hanging up the record crates for the laptop. Don’t worry: You still have to use vinyl with this thing, and it doesn’t make a great DJ like me any worse. You see, it makes bad deejays badder and good deejays better, because I’ll have a million songs at my disposal, and NEVER again will I have to say “sorry … I didn’t bring it.” I’m not the kind of DJ that plays around with the songs and scratches too much and switches the song too soon, so you don’t have to worry about my style changing. I will still and always be that DJ who makes you fall in love with music … and not me. I’ll just be able to, you know … NEVER HAVE TO FREAKING LUG CRATES AROUND OR SPEND 3 HOURS BEFORE A GIG PUTTING MY STUPID RECORDS TOGETHER AND THEN BOTHER TAKING THEM OUT OF MY CAR AT 6 IN THE AM IN BROOKLYN WHEN ALL THE CRACKHEADS COME LIMPING DOWN THE BLOCK.

That’s all it is. It’ll still be the Herbs, 2 turntables and wax. Make believe the laptop is like my crate boy.
