Boycott Hip-Hop NOW!
I know your subject line is crazy, but sh*t is real right now and needs to be said. The anger, the violence, the misogyny, the LIES that rap music MCs have been spreading though their songs, selling to children, black AND white AND brown AND everything in between, in order to drive expensive cars and wear flashy jewelry, all are continuing to float by and corrupt our sons and daughters and even us and our own minds UN-NOTICED, un-challenged, all because the Man–the black, brown and white execs–is making so much freaking money when WE go out and buy (myself included) their angry sh*t and listen to it.

For one day, just don’t. Try not to. Try listening to something else. Do not pay a single cent for it. Don’t even download it. Seriously. Just one day. It’s not a lot to ask for. Make ‘em know! Make ‘em know you’re tired of 11 year old boys taking guns to school. Make ‘em know you’re sick of 11 year old girls wearing half-naked outfits to school. Let them mothersuckers know hip-hop always has been, always is, and always can be a party without insults, anger, hatred or violence.

I’m sorry, y’all. I’m just really pissed off. I know I buy it too, I nod my head to it too, even though it’s hard to most of the time these days, and for God’s sakes how hypocritical can one be. I PLAY IT FOR THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE!!!!!!!!! I’m just really, really, REALLY upset about losing yet another security guard to a simple case of BEEF. That’s it. An argument and this guy’s dead and leaving loved ones behind. I cried when we lost Shazaam from Guernica to some scumbag with a knife who I hope is rotting in a mental hell for what he did, and though I didn’t know Izzy well, I do know MANY security guards well, and I have the utmost respect for ALL OF THEM because they put their lives on the line EVERY SINGLE NIGHT to keep us safe. Believe you me … the pay ain’t sh*t, so don’t write back and say “but that’s their job.” They don’t make diddly-squat most of them. THEY DON’T EVEN GET RE-IMBURSED FOR THE BULLETPROOF VESTS they have to buy to protect your ass in the club so you can drink and party and get laid.

They are the same as firemen, as police officers, as medics. They save lives. And that’s the truth.

A moment of silence for Izzy, for Shazaam, and every security guard who lost his life in the line of duty… http://www.geocities.com/aqui4/boycotthiphop.jpg

Word To Herbert
Sorry I’m mad late with this one, folks. It’s because I’ve started this day job, to be honest. You see, I really like my Friday and Saturday gigs, and they’re definitely VERY successful and going well, but, on the real … I don’t wanna do anything else right now. I’m not trying to hear it. I feel I’m past the point where I can stomach those filler gigs you get the rest of the week. The ones that don’t really find me a big dance floor, a lot of people and tons of energy. You know I’m NEVER f-ing with the rock glamorous wannabe losers who only go out so they can stand on a couch in VIP section, point out who’s allowed to share their bottle of Grey Goose they made mommy and daddy spend $400 for (idiots), only to get down from the couch and go to the next “in” spot to do it all again and hopefully see somebody famous, God-willing. I simply cannot do that anymore, to be honest. It eats at your soul, you know? On the other end of the spectrum, they still got those “funky little spots” I might be able to f*ck with, but those are usually plagued with so-called “promoters” who dare call themselves by the name “event coordinator,” only bring maybe 7 people through the door the entire night.

No thanks.

So here I am, stuck with bout 4 free days for publicity and marketing for Herbert and his events, the Holler, the record collecting, the combination of all three plus a few trips to the gym. Unfortunately, it don’t take that long and I’m bored out of my freaking mind here in Brooklyn watching squirrels screw on my AC unit. Until I figure something else out, until I’m ready for the next step in this music/entertainment thing, be it another weekly event (which I am slowly trying to put together, but I’m REALLY trying to do something out-of-this-world, and there ain’t too many people with the balls do come along for the ride), the long overdue journey into recording (to date, I’ve personally recorded 1 mix tape … and I mean “tape”), or even the resuscitation of a very young, very fresh, very wet comedy/acting career, UNTIL THEN … I have decided to do some real estate.

If you see me on the street, wearing slacks and shiny shoes, maybe a tie, looking pretty much out-of-my-mind, please stop and say “hello, Herbert” because that’ll make me feel much better. I know, I know. Just trying to busy myself with a lil’ something, that’s all. Try something new.

DON’T WORRY: FREEDOM and my Saturday gig at BLVD ARE ON AND POPPING CRAZY. Can’t stop won’t stop I’m in control like Janet Jackson. And another one’s prolly on its way.

Then I can hang up the slacks and put on the jeans that make me look like I’m wearing diapers with doo-doo in them. JYEAH!

Love, happiness, great health and a home,

DJ Herbert

Word Herbert!! This violence is non-sense and straight stupid!! Why don’t you get a bunch of cats together and make a record about this non-sense and the state of hip-hop? Shit…make it a parody out of a club song and bang it at your spots so the people really hear it. We need to stand up!!

    Self Destruction part two???

  3.  posted by: Zeek on 02/9/2006 at 11:36 pm

Sounds like a good idea… at first… but honestly WHO would do it - they would be too hipocritical (’cause 98% of Hip-Hop is guilty of this!)

agree…thats why you got to find that other 2%.

Smooth is right…Trust not all rap music is preaching selfdestruction. don’t feel like I even have to name names, it’s just way too easy to blame a culture and music for the nonsense. It’s time for each individual to take responsibility for their actions and thoughts–the culture ain’t bred this type of ignorance.

I like “Self Destruction Part 2.” Who would be the featured MCs? I would think: Papoose, Talib Kweli, Common, Mos Def, Kanye …

    Word Life Flower Child!

We rap about what we see, meaning reality
From people bustin caps and like Mandela bein free
Not every MC be with the negativity
We have a slew of rappers pushin positivity
Hip hop will never die yo, it’s all about the rap
So Marion Barry smokin crack, let’s preach about that
The trash you talk won’t matter, that old bogus chatter
The more that you condemn us, it only makes us phatter

When I talk, I know I’m talkin for hip-hoppers all around

You know you love the sound, we gets down

some people have sense enough not to think they have to have what people on tv have. some people know it is entertainment and if women weren’t complying with these men then they wouldn’t be able to say the things they do.

you don’t know what you’re going on about it’s you’re sons and daughters that choose what to listen to.at the end of the day everyone has a choice, and if everyone listened to the same music you would all be boring.p.s i listen to drum and bass, and don’t care what anyone thinks.I personally think house is druggeys music.alot of rapper also talk about how shit life is living on no money having to sell drugs to feed their family’s i personally find this interesting.
