What’s In Your Deck #12

My Top 5 Music Picks
1. Crooked I–”Watch What You Do”
With lyrics like “even if I was an organ donor you wouldn’t want no parts of me” when he says “people call me a rapper, but I’m a gangsta MC,” please believe it! He’s finally off Tha Row, and is expected to do big things. And for this witty lyricist whose flow is tight, I’m sure he’s up for the challenge.

2. Bubba Sparxxx–”Hey”
No longer on Beat Club, he’s one of the first artists signed to Big Boi’s (Outkast) Purple Ribbon imprint under Virgin. Bubba’s rocks the mic over this hot track produced by Timbaland!

3. Common–”Real People”
By far the best song on the entire Be album! One of the many songs produced by Kanye West and the only one (Kanye produced) without a sample. The jazz influenced track breaks the monotonous vibe of the album and is very complimentary to his voice.

4. Boyz in the Hood–”Don’t Put Your Hands on Me”
I feel this song! The name alone had me. “You can talk all the f**k you want, don’t put your hands on me!” Every security guard in America needs to hear this!

5. Buckshot-”Now A Days (That’s What’s Up)”
Off the new album Chemistry all songs produced by 9th Wonder (Little Brother), Buckshots back on the map with an album that’s sure to make him relevant in hip hop again. “They don’t use fist now they rather use clips, on the streets now all I see is this, everybody got something to bust, but if you real then you will knuckle up, That’s what’s up!”

Bonus: Damien “Jr. Gong” Marley–”Welcome to Jamrock”
I know it’s kind of old, but I still feel this song and every remix made on this track! “Out in the streets, they call it muuurder!”

    1. Jin - I quit
It’s funny to hear someone so feed up with the rap game that they say “I quit”. I guess he may still battle, (cause there are some emcees who eat that way).

    2. The emcee- over Jay-z dear summer
It’s the guy I mentioned above doing it independant, getting more money for self. Don’t blame him, he has Strong followers. They may not be 500,000 strong but strong enough that if he does it on his own he’ll make more cheese than he did a ruff ryder.

    3. Rich girl- Hall and Oates
    My own personal shit.

    4. Bizarre, big boi, and devin the dude- porn song (don’t know the true name).
    just some funny shit.

    5. RJD2- moonlit skies Someone sent this song and it’s pretty cool.

These are not my favorite jams, just some stuff thats caught my ear in the last few days.

lol “Real People” was a sample

To be honest with you MarkWilly, I had my own doubts about “Real People” being an orginal composition as well, but in the liner notes if it was a sample, it was the only one (out of 11, I think) that was not credited. Only thing I could think of, because the song was a little complex compared to Kanye’s traditional heavy (almost all) sample style, was that he had actual musicains playing on it, but if so they weren’t credited either.

Do you know who performed the song that was sampled?

Honestly, I haven’t been listening to much lately because I’m in transition but I’ve been playing this mixed cd a friend made for me with joints on it by:

    1. Sa’Ra(Freaky lil’ fellas)
    2. Georgia Ann(her voice and tracks are “crazy, stuffy, basement funky”.
3.Don’t know the title but this joint with Jay Dee, Slum V. and Spacek- The hook is saying, “I want u, I need you…”
    4. Fela Kuti(he’s like the James Brown of Afro Beat).
    5. Platinum Pied Pipers(just imagine being on the most beautiful exotic island in the world and being able to breath and listen to your music under the deep blue sea with no mask or anything, as you swam peacefully, listening to your favortie jam, that’s how this Hip Hop group makes me feel).
